People with autism or learning delays can often misunderstand or don’t pick up on social cues such as body language, facial expressions, gestures and eye contact. Social Stories™ were developed as an intervention for children to learn how they should behave in social settings by explicitly pointing out details about situations and appropriate actions and responses to these situations. These details help children pick up on cues they would normally overlook.
Social Stories™ are also a great way for teaching typically developing children appropriate behavior and can be used in kindergartens, schools and group settings.
